Maybelline is a brand I want to take a moment to appreciate. I think we often take it for granted because it's such a staple on the aisles of Boots and Superdrug, but I think their products are really killing it at the moment. I must admit I've had these for a while but I thought it was time to share my thoughts on the Colour Drama Lip Pencils (£4.99 each).
From what I gather from other bloggers and from swatching shades in-store, the formula and finish of these can really depend on the shade you choose. However the three I have are quite similar in texture and finish. They're definitely a satin look as opposed to a true matte; there's a bit of a sheen to them. All three that I picked up are shimmer-free and have a creamy, easy-to-apply formula. Despite them being quite soft I didn't find them hard to sharpen and also though they are quite small I find a little goes a long way.
Due to the sheen, you will probably get a bit of transfer, however I find them to be pretty long-lasting. I picked up three shades: Nude Perfection (a darker, brown/terracotta nude), Keep It Classy (a dark pink) and Very Berry (a bright cool-toned berry). They're all seriously pigmented!
Whilst they are very lovely, I do think there's a lack of wearable shades in the line. The only on I find myself reaching for in the daytime is Nude Perfection. I know you're paying a fraction of the price you would for a Nars one but some more colours would be nice. Also they're too large to use as a lip liner, so it's definitely not a 2-in-1 or anything.
I like Nude Perfection a lot however as for the others, all in all they're nice and well worth spending a fiver on but I just didn't love them as much as I'd hoped.
