The Brow Guide

It feels as though 5 or 6 years back, having the perfect brows wasn't such a huge thing. But celebrities such as Cara Delevigne and Lily Collins have brought the full brow back. I've tried lots of different methods of hair removal and of filling in my brows and I've definitely made a lot of brow-related mistakes! So I thought I'd share my experiences with you all.

Plucking

Probably the first method most of us tried. I think plucking is best used for tidy-ups in between professional styling (I use prefer slanted tweezers, as I find them easier to use). It's very easy to go overboard and pulling out one hair at a time is far from efficient!

Threading

I used to get my eyebrows threaded by a girl in my class at lunchtime! Fast-forward about 5 years and these bars have cropped up in Superdrugs and shopping centres across the country offering treatments for as little as a fiver. I think this is the best method if you want something really precise and manicured. Personally it doesn't hurt for me but I find it really irritates my eyes and is quite uncomfortable.

Trimming

I think this is one best left to the professionals unless you really know what you're doing. You simply brush them upwards with your spooly and trim them with a pair of hair scissors to get that precise look.

Waxing

This is my preferred method because it doesn't particularly hurt (for me personally) and I think you can get quite a natural look. The downside is that you do have to grow out your hairs a little so the wax has something to grab onto.

Tinting

I get my brows tinted around once a month because my eyebrows are quite sparse and ashy. For about the first day it looks pretty full-on, so if you're getting it done for an occasion then maybe do it a couple of days before.

1 day after a tint...Please excuse my entire face...

Pencil

Again, this was probably the first way you started filling in your brows and it's probably the easiest to mess up! I don't really pencil mine in as I find it looks less natural, plus they run out so quickly. If you're going to do this then make sure your pencil is super-sharp and you're making light movements, also have a spooly on hand to soften things out. It's also easier if your eyebrows are shaped.

Wax & Powder

This is the way I do my brows: using the wax to shape my brows (as they're naturally asymmetric) and do the actual filling in with powder. If you're lucky enough to have symmetrical and quite full eyebrows, you can simply run some powder through yours. Also, despite using mine everyday since February, my brow kit is only just hitting pan in one place with the wax!

Gel

There are two types: tinted and clear. Tinted gels are good if you don't really need to do much shaping but you want them to look fuller. Clear gels are better if you already have nice eyebrows but just want them kept in place and looking a little fuller. You can also use clear gel as I do; if you fill them in but just want them tamed.

Highlight

If you like a nice arch you might want to use a nude pencil to highlight the brow bone. Make sure you blend it in properly. Otherwise you can just use a concealer a couple of shades lighter than your skin tone.
